15 May Finding Harmony When Families Aren’t Perfect
First, let’s get one thing straight: No family is perfect. Believing that there is a “perfect” way to be a family just leads to feelings of inadequacy and judgement. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it may be helpful to mindfully accept that perfection in families does not exist, then we can radically accept that all families are on a journey to find more balance and harmony in their lives.
A sense of balance and harmony can be increased by mindfully approaching each day as a fresh start. Do not get caught up in old argument patterns or hold grudges. Try to consider the other person’s point of view, even if you don’t agree with it. Make sure you respond from a place of calm instead of a place of anger. This means your response will be helpful in moving the disagreement forward in a positive direction. Of course, this isn’t easy, but it is a worthy exercise to practice if you truly want more peace and harmony to be nurtured within your family unit. And that may just be the best Mother’s Day gift ever.
